The main airport of Athens is located approximately 35 kilometers from the Greek capital. It consists of two terminals. It has convenient connections to the city center and the surrounding towns. The minimum journey time to the center – Syntagma Square takes 40 min. From the airport you can reach Athens in several ways:
The fastest:
Subway - line No. 3, blue. Journey time: 40 min. Cost: 10 Euro.
Cost-optimal:
Bus line X95. Journey time: 55 min. Cost: 6 Euro.
The cheapest:
walk + bus line 304 + metro no. 3. Driving time: 65 min + 35 min walk. Cost: 1.4 Euro
The cheapest option includes a 3.5 km walk from the airport to the nearest stop of line 304. Then take the line to the last stop Nomismatokopio and then change to Metro No. 3 to Syntagma Square. You have to book a minimum of 35 minutes for the walk itself. The total travel time will therefore be a minimum of 100 minutes. The walk from the airport is quite pleasant and only at first runs along a busy road, which we must cross in one place. Then out journey is quite calm and pleasant. You just need to be careful that the gate near the expo buildings that we pass is open. If this is not, we have to get around on right side from expo buildings, which will slightly extend the road.
Another option is also the suburban queue http://www.trainose.gr/ departing from the same station as the metro and of course taxi.
Access by subway is also possible a little cheaper. First, you only need to buy a special ticket from the airport to the KOROPI station for 6 euros and then validate additional ticket to the center for 1.4 euros. In Athens reduced-price tickets up to the age of 18 apply, and also for students up to the age of 25. They cost half of normal rates.
A big plus is that at the airport near the bus stop is a ticket machine in which we can buy ALL types of tickets, also daily or other, not valid on routes from the airport. Therefore, the cheapest travel option allows you to have a 5-day ticket for all communication in Athens at the price of the subway from airport (its cost 9 EUR). Moreover this ticket can be purchased at the airport.
