The main and the only airport in Malta is located in the south-eastern part of the island. The distance from the center of Valetta (the capital of Malta) is about 7.5 km. There is also a main transfer point from which we can get to every corner of the island. From the airport itself located in the city of Luqa (although formally in Malta there is no distinction between cities, it is a city-state) to the capital access is easy, fast and cheap. It will take a little longer to get to other parts of the island, however, almost all areas of this city-state are covered by some communication lines. Directly from the bus stop located in front of the airport terminal there are lines: TD2, X1, X2, X3, X4. Access to Valetta is possible directly via the X4 line. You can also get to the nearby Cintra stop near Mc Donald’s. From there, by line No. 73, we also get to the center of Valetta and even a little faster than X4.

Acces to Ir-Rabat: Route no. X3, travel time: 50 min, Cost: 1,5 Euro

As you can see in the table, it is sometimes worth waiting for another line or switching between lines because it allows you to save time. Some lines are going around the island. It is worth to add that single-use tickets are valid for two hours from the moment of validation and also allow for transfers. Single tickets cost the same on all lines. It is 1.5 Euros a day service and 3 Euros at night. However, in season, from mid-June to mid-October, single tickets are more expensive and cost 2 Euro. However, if you plan to stay in Malta, I recommend buying cards, like 12 journeys tallinja card for 15 Euro. You can use it for several people (also on one journey) and purchase it at the airport at the ticket machine. Other cards such as Explore Card (cost 21 Euro and offer unlimited travel for 7 days) are available for purchase only at Maltese public transport service points. This is also located at the airport, however, it is open only from 8:00 to 19:30.
